Genotype-guided treatment of oral P2Y12 inhibitors: where do we stand?

Dual antiplatelet therapy, consisting of aspirin and a P2Y12 inhibitor, remains the cornerstone of treatment in preventing recurrent thrombotic events such as stent thrombosis or spontaneous myocardial infarction (MI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In patients with ACS, the guidelines favor the stronger P2Y12 inhibitors ticagrelor or prasugrel over weaker clopidogrel [1,2].
