1 INTRODUCTION Understanding the role of precipitation in eroding landscapes remains an open question within geomorphology. In particular, whether mean rainfall averages, or infrequent, extreme events (e.g., cyclones and large storms) are the larger erosional influence is still unresolved (e.g., Hovius et al., 2000; Marc et al., 2019; Wolman & Miller, 1960).
