As the Hong Kong non-profit Para Site marks its 30th anniversary, it navigates a much-changed city under the new leadership of James Taylor-Foster. The 33-year-old British curator filled the seat of executive director last month—which has been empty since last year—of one of Hong Kong’s longest-running independent art institutions. Taylor-Foster envisions Para Site’s next chapter as “both a continuation and a rupture”, framing contemporary art within a larger family of creative practices.

It reads like a mirage: a weathered ship sailing from afar, now moored at port. After years wandering more than 50,000 nautical miles in the Indonesian archipelago, calling at remote islands and harbours, and tracing climate fault lines, Arka Kinari arrived in Colombo for Colomboscope, Sri Lanka’s biennial contemporary art festival, before continuing westward toward the Mediterranean via India, Socotra, Sudan and Saudi Arabia.
