Daniel Wild: Fare dodging plagues London
Daniel Wild is a former Conservative political adviser who advised on the 2024 general election and party leadership campaigns. He is now a director of St Michael Advisory and helps run Conservative Business Network. At the height of summer, I decided to brave Battersea Power Station for lunch with a friend. Passengers from an overcrowded Northern Line train piled into the gates like sardines, and, as usual, I was in a rush to get through and make a break for the stairs.

Daniel Wild on The Rita Panahi Show Sky News Australia – 25 May 2026
Rita Panahi: Joining me now is deputy executive director at the Institute of Public Affairs, Daniel Wild. Dan, the comments from the PM really illustrate that he and the rest of that cabinet lack economic nous, they lack business experience, and they seem almost hostile to the small business sector. Daniel Wild: Well, that’s right. They don’t understand how the economy works. They are either hostile, or at best, callously indifferent towards business.

Daniel Wild on The Rita Panahi Show Sky News Australia – 18 May 2026
Rita Panahi: Joining me now is Deputy Executive Director at the Institute of Public Affairs, Daniel Wild. Dan, the reaction to this budget must be alarming to the Albanese government. To give you an idea of how badly it’s been received, it has a minus a negative 25 net approval rating. The infamous austerity budget under Joe Hockey in 2014, that had a minus nine rating. This one’s minus 25. Daniel Wild: Yeah.

Peta Credlin: All right, here’s the panel, Sky News host, Jaimee Rogers, the Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs, Dan Wild. Welcome to you both. Dan, I’m going to start with you. I’ve been warning for ages and ages, that the rank debt, the red ink in Victoria, would have fallout for other states, and that’s precisely what’s happened.
Daniel Wild on Paul Murray Live Sky News Australia – 10 May 2026
Paul Murray: Now forgive me for taking this long to do it, but I just wanted to get the tough stuff out of the way. Happy Mother’s Day. Hopefully you have the chance to be celebrated if you’re a mom, a huge thanks and endless love to my mom. It was her birthday yesterday as well, so it was cool to hang out with her and Wayne on Friday. Happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife, Sian, who has to put up with oh so much. And I’m not talking about the kids. I’m talking about the kids.

Its gas reservation policy, announced yesterday, marks a dramatic reversal of years of demonising fossil fuels,” said Daniel Wild, Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs. The new gas reservation policy will require gas exporters to ensure a value equivalent to 20 per cent of exports is held for the domestic market from 1 July 2027.
Daniel Wild on The Rita Panahi Show Sky News Australia – 7 May 2026
Rita Panahi: Joining me now for more on this is Institute of Public Affairs Executive Director, Daniel Wild. Dan, Melbourne does like to see itself as a centre of culture and cosmopolitan life where people socialise and have great coffee and great food. And if you take that away, really, what does this city have left right now? Daniel Wild: Well, not much at the moment is there? And I think this is another example of how Melbourne is becoming increasingly lawless.

Daniel Wild on Credlin Sky News Australia – 5 May 2026
Peta Credlin: All right, welcome back. We’ve got lots to get into, but I want to look at those controversial changes to negative gearing and the revelations today. But the Albanese government will carve-out new homes from its changes here. They’ll also abolish the 50% capital gains tax discount, all set to be unveiled in next Tuesday night’s budget, which also includes a crackdown on the use of trusts. That’s going to hit our farmers hard.
Daniel Wild on Paul Murray Live Sky News Australia – 3 May 2026
Paul Murray: Happy birthday to my mate, Nafa, who I know is sitting around with a bunch of very good blokes watching us this evening. Hopefully you’ve had a wonderful weekend as well. Daniel Wild on Opinionated Sky News Australia – 1 May 2026
Danica De Giorgio: Well, big Australia keeps getting bigger. In fact, it has soared to unprecedented levels. There have been more arrivals in the past 25 years than in the entire century before. In the middle of a cost of living and housing crisis, where on earth are we going to put the estimated 300,000 net overseas migrants who are on track to call Australia home this year? Daniel Wild is the Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs.
Daniel Wild on Credlin Sky News Australia – 30 April 2026
Peta Credlin: Joining me to do that is my panel, Deputy Executive Director at the IPA, Dan Wild, and Sky News contributor Karalee Katsambanis. I want to pick up where we obviously were yesterday with inflation spiking up now to 4.6%. The majority of economists, Ross Green was certainly here on the desk last night, said we’ve got two more rate hikes on the way. So Dan, you think then the budget might reign in some spending.
More new migrants since year 2000 than from 1901 to 2000
“The most recent data from the ABS confirms that the avalanche of migration crushing our economy and society continues unabated, with the increase in Australia’s overseas-born population since 2000 now greater than the increase from Federation to the year 2000,” said Daniel Wild, Deputy Executive Director at the Institute of Public Affairs. Today, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) updated its Population by Country of Birth database, with the reference period June 2025.

Karl Langdon: 13 after six and there is a new survey. Australians increasingly reject Welcome to Country ceremonies. Daniel Wild is the deputy executive director at the Institute of Public Affairs. That’s the headline this morning, Daniel. What do you think about that? Daniel Wild: Yeah, that’s right. What we’ve done is commissioned a survey on attitudes towards Welcome to Country in the wake of the Anzac Day, I guess a division has taken place there.
New survey: Australians increasingly reject welcome to country ceremonies
“More and more Australians are saying they want ANZAC Day ceremonies to focus exclusively on the sacrifices of our Diggers, and to drop the inappropriate welcome to country ceremonies which create division,” said Daniel Wild, Deputy Executive Director at the Institute of Public Affairs. The IPA has released new polling data, conducted in the wake of several high-profile ANZAC Day ceremonies on Saturday, at which some attendees expressed opposition to the inclusion of a welcome to country message.
Daniel Wild on The Rita Panahi Show Sky News Australia – 27 April 2026
Donald Trump: They go after. Rita Panahi: Let’s bring in Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs, Daniel Wild. Dan, seems like the left has a problem with political violence. Daniel Wild: Well, that’s right. We’ve had a couple of attempts on Trump’s life so far, and those are only the ones that we know about. Who knows how many other foiled attempts there have been. Of course, there was the assassination of Charlie Kirk, as well.

Before we get to gas, I want to get to gas because a lot about that today. The NDI is, call me cynical, right? Rita Panahi: Joining me now is the Institute of Public Affairs Executive Director, Daniel Wild. Dan, the poll also revealed 27% favoured taxing inheritances of more than a million dollars. Labour does love the politics of envy, and I think we’re going to get a fair dose of that in this budget. Daniel Wild: Yeah, I think that’s a pretty safe bet. These policies are typically popular with Labour and Greens voters, even if they’re not that popular with the public at large.

Matt man to drain swamp
Nationals leader Matt Canavan was so right when he said “I am not interested in an economic reset. Given the state of our country, we need an economic revolution.” Finally, someone in Canberra thinking big and thinking bold. Tinkering around the edges is simply not going to rebuild Australia into a successful and confident nation, with the self-assuredness and living standards we once enjoyed.

Daniel Wild on Opinionated Sky News Australia – 3 April 2026
Danica De Giorgio: Daniel Wild is Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs, and has this editorial. Daniel Wild: Well, Hurricane One Nation made landfall at the South Australian state election, and one nation has devastated the Liberal Party, a complete wipe out, but the Orange Hurricane came for Labour as well. In some previously safe Labour seats, voters fled in droves, with swings of 15% or more away from the Labour Party. And this is all about immigration.

Daniel Wild on Credlin Sky News Australia – 1 April 2026
Peta Credlin: Coming up, Kel Richards had some pretty topical words for this week, but now to the looming budget and that damning assessment today from former New South Wales premier, Mike Baird, who’s warned that Australia’s no longer a low debt nation and that we’ve got to confront our unsustainable fiscal settings. That comes at the time, of course, that the treasurer, Jim Charmers, is looking to ramp up vote buying spending.
