The Influence of Macrophages within the Tumor Microenvironment on Ovarian Cancer Growth and Response to Therapies
Abstract While the majority of ovarian cancer (OC) patients respond to front-line carboplatin/paclitaxel chemotherapy and surgical debulking, nearly all patients will develop platinum-resistance and recur. Our study investigates how tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) within the tumor microenvironment (TME) affect chemotherapy outcomes using OC patient-derived organoids and humanized patient-derived xenografts (huPDX).
Organoid Models Derived from Primary Tumors and Patient-Derive Xenograft Tumors Reflect Platinum Sensitivity of Ovarian Cancer Patients
Abstract Ovarian cancer (OC) remains the deadliest gynecological cancer, primarily due to late stage diagnosis and high rates of chemotherapy resistance and recurrence. Lack of representative preclinical models exacerbates the challenges of discovering effective therapies to treat platinum-resistant OC. Patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models maintain the genetic characteristics of the original tumor, but require considerable development time and have limited screening capabilities.
Factors associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection and outbreaks in long-term care facilities in England: a national cross-sectional survey
Summary Background Outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection have occurred in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) worldwide, but the reasons why some facilities are particularly vulnerable to outbreaks are poorly understood.
Do comorbidities predict pain and function in knee osteoarthritis following an exercise intervention, and do they moderate the effect of exercise? Analyses of data from three randomized controlled trials

Subgrouping and TargetEd Exercise pRogrammes for knee and hip OsteoArthritis (STEER OA): a systematic review update and individual participant data meta-analysis protocol
Osteoarthritis (OA) can be defined as a clinical syndrome of joint pain accompanied by varying degrees of functional limitation and reduced quality of life.1 OA, particularly of the knee and hip, is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, with an estimated global age-standardised prevalence of 3.8% (95% CI 3.6% to 4.1%) for knee OA and 0.85% (95% CI 0.74% to 1.02%) for hip OA.2 The burden of OA will increase as the population ages and the prevalence of obesity rises.2 3 No cure...
Multivariate and network meta-analysis of multiple outcomes and multiple treatments: rationale, concepts, and examples
Meta-analysis methods combine quantitative evidence from related studies to produce results based on a whole body of research. As such, meta-analyses are an integral part of evidence based medicine and clinical decision making—for example, to guide which treatment should be recommended for a particular condition. Most meta-analyses are based on combining results (eg, treatment effect estimates) extracted from study publications or obtained directly from study authors.
