Danielle is The Current’s Editor. Her Valley roots go back to childhood. She grew up hearing stories of the Valley from her father, Leo Bonnah, and his uncle, Fr. Bill Dwyer, parish priest in Madawaska. After retiring in 1968, Leo served on the St. Francis Memorial Hospital board and was heavily involved in the birth of Valley Manor. Danielle was formerly president of the Renfrew County Museums Network and a board member of her lake association (CTLG). After graduating from OCAD, she worked mos…

Voters in Madawaska Valley have reason to be grateful for their Public Library and their local Legion. As in many previous election campaigns, Madawaska Valley Public Library and the Royal Canadian Legion Barry’s Bay Branch 406 have combined forces to host an All Candidates Meeting. The event allows voters to hear candidates’ platforms on key issues. It will take place at Barry’s Bay Legion, 250 John Street, on Tuesday, 6th October 2026 at 7pm.

Barry’s Bay is venue for Take Back The Night

The 33rd annual Take Back the Night March hosted by Renfrew County Sexual Assault and Rape Crisis Support Centre will take place on Thursday, September 17, in Barry’s Bay. Participants should gather at Water Tower Park, 20 Mahon St., beginning at 6:30 pm. The march will begin at approximately 7:30 pm., followed by a social gathering and light refreshments.
