More of the same: how creative rituals can help you break free from the idea echo chamber
Why inspiration feels harder to come by and how three types of creative ritual could be our strongest defence against the slow erosion of taste, attention, and intention. Spring has officially arrived across the northern hemisphere. Blossom is falling like confetti, beer gardens are full, and fashion houses are unveiling their latest spring campaigns.

Finding your Happy Place: How play and experimentation unlock inner calm
To mark the launch of Inner Piece, a brand-new partnership between It’s Nice That and the LEGO® Group, we delve into the ways that creativity and wellbeing can be set free by rolling your sleeves up and getting hands-on with a playful hobby or activity. The LEGO Group’s mission is to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow through the power of play. On the way home from school last week, I asked my daughter what she’d played at break and lunchtime.
How to keep going: Navigating the ebb and flow of creativity and motivation
Wise Guides is an advice series for creatives navigating the first years of their careers. In this piece, Danielle Pender looks at all the factors standing in the way of you getting going – from creative block, to health, money, routine and expectations – and shares tips to nudge you off the starting blocks. Motivation is a tricky and nebulous thing – much like inspiration. It means different things to different people; it can strike at odd times and drain away just when you need it most.

What My Mother’s Cancer Taught Me About Living Life To The Fullest
What My Mother’s Cancer Taught Me LifeCavan Images - Getty Images It was the phone call I’d been preparing for my whole adult life. For as long as I can remember my mother has had a bi-annual, sometimes quarterly cancer scare that thankfully never amounted to anything serious. Lung, ovarian, bowel, skin, breast – every tissue imaginable has misbehaved in some way and resulted in weeks of tests, sleepless nights, and a constant Googling of symptoms.
Cruel Compendium #58 🦭
I’m so excited to see my cats and sit on my couch and watch my trash TV. Unfortunately, I’m returning to the 100-degree heat as well. Here’s to six more weeks of summer in Texas! 🥲 Last week, I wrote about how important it is to go where you are wanted. So many people love you for who you are—go to them. Check out my recs in the platonic love newsletter, which included a golden Tarot deck, my favorite endless lint roller, one of my all-time favorite comedy sets, and more.

The True Cost Of Ignoring Your Boundaries At Work
Over the last few years, the conversation around defining and implementing personal boundaries has become more widespread. Many of us recognise the need to identify where our boundaries lie in relation to time, money, availability (emotional and physical), respect and consent but when it comes to identifying our boundaries at work, things aren’t so clear-cut. In my personal life, I have a very strong sense of my own boundaries.

Client Red Flags: How to spot the warning signs of a toxic creative relationship
The mad, bad and the very sad Asking for a rationale document on what toilet roll the client should use in a new facility. Requesting a file with a 15-minute window as the client was boarding a flight to the Bahamas. 12-hour day as standard (often on shoots). When they describe anything as sexy. Any company that puts out, “We want to celebrate all the lovely ladies on IWD!” messaging. When they want everyone to know about the office dog – that absolutely stinks.

“A chance to catch a breath”: Danielle Pender on why we should avoid the pressure to create
Right now, we’re all hopefully practising some good, robust social distancing. Let’s assume you’re all locked down at home checking in with family members, changing from your day pyjamas into your night pyjamas and snacking your way through the day. Or perhaps you’re at the other end of the panic spectrum.

In 2018, Why Are We Still Obsessed With Looking Young?
As I hurtle through my 30s, my face is showing the signs of a life well lived. The lines around my mouth are deeper from all the laughing, talking and cigarettes smoked. The lines around my eyes are noticeable all the time now – not just when I laugh. I notice new signs of ageing every week and for a while I’ve obsessed about my ageing face but I’ve come to the point where I can’t justify wasting any more energy worrying about it.
Zetteler
Beyonce’s words, not mine, and she had to say it over 30 times (yes, I counted) to get her point across. It is tough deciphering whether the past year has been heroic or horrific for women. No doubt it will be remembered as the year in which a barrage of historic sexual abuse cases were exposed to the world. It was also a year that many women found the courage to speak out. Their voices and testimonies have changed the world forever and will continue to inspire others.
Why Millennial Pink can do one
This might seem like it’s got nothing to do with one colour but it’s all relative. For fourth wave feminism to really make a mark and forge forward real change and equality for ALL women it needs be intersectional and not just focused on white girl issues like freeing the nipple and growing our body hair. It should be about those things but also so much more and we should visually reflect this diversity and complexity.
