What was your first job as a journalist?
My first job (not at a student paper) was for The Nation, which is an English-language newspaper in Thailand. I was there for a summer.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I took a mandatory typing class in 6th grade and we used typewriters. I think it was the last year that the middle school used typewriters.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Henry Hackett from The Paper. That's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
We revived the newspaper my senior year. It had been dead for years. I was an editor, so I got called to the principal's office a lot.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be curious about everything. Read a lot of good writing and watch a lot of good movies. Make sure you know how to use Excel.
