Charles “Brent” Lowe, the Butts County superintendent of Schools who died at the age of 50 in the night hours of June 13 last week, was known for being approachable, balanced, fair and honest.

High school football season is three months away. If it began today, the Red Devils might not do anything except run the ball down their opponents’ throats. That’s what they did in their 35-21 spring game victory against Locust Grove. Danarri Brown and Elijah Goodrum combined for 440 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. “You know, we run the ball so well,” said coach Thomas Clark, preparing for his third year as the Red Devils’ coach.

Thursday’s football game promises to be one of the highlights of the spring for Jackson athletics, which has had some personnel changes recently. The Red Devils will play host to Locust Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Red Devil Hill, as Thomas Clark prepares to build on his first two seasons at Jackson’s coach. And as there always is, there’ll be a few changes to note.
