When Deacon Lang was 10 years old, he was in a religious education class in Illinois where his family was living at the time. There was a competition for the greatest number of hours reading the Bible for each grade level. The prize for first place was a meal at Jimmy John’s for each member of the winning class. Daily Mass, family time with priests forge path to priesthood for Deacon DeReuil

Two of the most powerful factors were: time spent with priests throughout his life and four years of high school at Chesterton Academy in Edina (now Hopkins). His four years at Chesterton included daily Mass, philosophy and theology classes and a trip to Rome with classmates during his junior year.
