BELMONT CRAGIN — An auction featuring dozens of works by the late Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick saw his major pieces sell for far more than their estimated value — including some pieces that went for three or four times more than expected. The offering from an anonymous collector was so successful that the auction house, Potter & Potter Auctions in Belmont Cragin, is planning to hold another one featuring Fitzpatrick’s work this year.

DOWNTOWN — A burning cross was discovered and extinguished in Grant Park Tuesday afternoon, according to police and fire officials. The Chicago Fire Department put out the burning cross at 2:27 p.m. Tuesday near South Columbus and East Balbo drives, a spokesperson said. No one was hurt and there was no major damage.

CHICAGO — On a sunny afternoon last Saturday, a bald eagle sat perched and alert from inside her nest, staring out while her fuzzy offspring occasionally popped their heads out. Not far away, a line of cars drove by, oblivious to the avian creatures making their home high in the treetops in a peaceful South Side cemetery that is surrounded by residential houses.
