CAIRO — Bassem Youssef’s disappearance from X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) coincided with the announcement by the Saudi television network MBC that he will be a new jury member for the Arabs Got Talent program. Some say that this is part of an attempt by influential Saudi official Turki Al-Sheikh, armed with plenty of Saudi cash, to “silence” Youssef, who is vocal in criticizing the Israeli army in Gaza and Israel’s settlement practices in the West Bank.
