Selecting one free agent from every National League team the Blue Jays should target
With free agency now open, the Toronto Blue Jays will likely look for ways to improve the team before the CBA expires on Dec. 1. That means they'll likely be aggressive to address the holes in their roster. The Blue Jays have been linked to several names in the free agent market, such as Seiya Suzuki and Tarik Skubal to start, though their search should not end there.
Selecting one free agent from every American League team the Blue Jays could target
There could be lots of transactions happening before the CBA expires on December 1. The last the time CBA was set to expire in 2021, top free agents such as Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, and Max Scherzer, all signed before the expiration. The offseason is not just about making your team better, but in a lateral way, making teams around you worse by taking good players out of their systems. The Toronto Blue Jays can do that by targeting these free agents from American League clubs.
Blue Jays would have to pay a Juan Soto-sized price for Elly de la Cruz
Elly de la Cruz has been a superstar for the Cincinnati Reds seemingly since his debut in June 2023. Over that time, he leads the league in stolen bases (169), is fifth in triples (29), and 13th in runs (373). When talking about five-tool players, one of the first players that should come to mind is de la Cruz. Lately, he has been dangled around as a potential trade piece. While it is confounding that a superstar level talent like him could be available, it makes sense as to why.
Blue Jays’ 2026 draft class has early standouts and an even bigger debut to come
The Toronto Blue Jays brought in lots of new young faces into the organization after the 2026 MLB Draft. Some of the players already made their professional debuts after the draft. Others will get their first taste of pro-ball in 2027. Even though there are some very small sample sizes to look at, the Blue Jays now have some actual data to comb over as they asses what they came away with last summer.
Ranking the Blue Jays’ best bullpen fits in free agency
Heading into 2027, the "sure locks" for the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen are Louis Varland, Tyler Rogers, Braydon Fisher and Mason Fluharty. Brendon Little and Jake Bloss are out of options, meaning the Blue Jays would have to expose them to waivers. That takes up potentially six spots in the bullpen, not including Spencer Miles, which potentially leaves a spot or two available for the taking.
Ranking 6 Blue Jays trade targets from tempting upgrades to poor fits
The Collective Bargaining Agreement is set to expire on Dec. 1, and with just over one month remaining, there is an expectation that there could be a lot of transactions between the end of the World Series and the expiration of the CBA. Whether it is through free agency or trade, player movement could come swiftly. While the Toronto Blue Jays' laundry list is not as long as others, they still have several holes to fill.
4 projected free-agent contracts that could be risky investments for the Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays have had their fair share of hits and misses in free agency over the last few seasons. Dylan Cease and Anthony Santander represent opposite sides of that statement. Cease has been worth every penny. Santander has played less than 60 games over two years. Spotrac recently released their projected Annual Average Values for the upcoming free agent class.
Blue Jays should jump at projected prices for Tarik Skubal and these 3 free agents
The Collective Bargaining Agreement is expiring soon and there's a potential lockout looming with proposals of a salary cap. The Toronto Blue Jays and the other 29 MLB teams will have to navigate that whenever it happens, but in the meantime, the Blue Jays should try to maintain their role as big spenders. Spotrac recently released Annual Average Value projections for the upcoming free agent class.
Latest Blue Jays' Arizona Fall League roundup: Jake Bloss impresses as Aaron Parker’s bat heats up
The Toronto Blue Jays’ season is over, but several players in their system still have something to prove in October. Toronto sent eight players to the Arizona Fall League to make up for lost time, sharpen their skills and build momentum heading into 2027. Jake Bloss has delivered encouraging outings, while Aaron Parker’s bat has started to turn heads. These are still small samples, but the performances are worth watching as Toronto evaluates its depth for next season.
Blue Jays lack of power gives them obvious reason to pursue NPB star Teruaki Sato
It has been long rumored that the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball will post Teruaki Sato this offseason. On Monday (Oct. 19) those rumors have been put to rest as they have agreed to post the 27-year-old who just capture the NPB Triple-Crown. Many teams, including the Blue Jays have been linked to Sato but there is a legitimate question about how exactly he would fit with the Blue Jays?
How CJ Abrams would fit into the Blue Jays’ lineup and infield plans
In 2022, CJ Abrams was included in a trade pacakge that sent him to the Washington Nationals in exchange for Juan Soto. Four seasons later, Abrams could find himself on the move again. Jon Heyman reported last offseason Abrams was available for trade, and is expecting to be on the trade market again.
How Kazuma Okamoto can help Blue Jays recruit their next free agent star from Japan
It is no secret that the Blue Jays have been trying to tap into the Japanese market for a long time. Dating back to the Yu Darvish pursuit, the Blue Jays have had their struggles with landing top Japanese talent. They missed out on Shohei Ohtani not once, but twice. The Blue Jays were in on eventual World Series MVP, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and missed out. They even made an effort to acquire more bonus pool money to bring in Roki Sasaki, but swung and missed there as well.
Blue Jays Arizona Fall League roundup: Jake Cook surges through first week, Jake Bloss looks to stay strong
The Toronto Blue Jays sent eight players to this year's Arizona Fall League. That included some intriguing pitching prospects in Jake Bloss and Brandon Barriera who are both overcoming arm-related injuries and using the AFL to get some extra work in. Meantime, catcher Aaron Parker and outfielders Jake Cook and Jake Casey are trying to work their way into the Blue Jays' 2027 spring training plans.
One player from every 2026 Division Series playoff team who could help the Blue Jays in 2027
As the Toronto Blue Jays look for ways to improve upon last years results, one thing that can never be undervalued is postseason experience. After all, that's the goal for every team, and poaching scooping up players who have been there can only help that drive to get there again. Whether that be by trade or free agency these players have been significant contributors elsewhere, so why not in Toronto?
José Soriano could follow Louis Varland’s path to a Blue Jays breakout in 2027
Louis Varland's breakout in 2026 showed how a refined pitch mix can transform a pitcher in the span of one year. After Varland pitched in 15 out of the Toronto Blue Jays' 18 postseason games in 2025, he entered the 2026 season as the top setup man for Jeff Hoffman. After Hoffman struggled and was removed from the closer's role, Varland took the reigns and turned it into one of the best seasons by a relief pitcher in Blue Jays' history. What changes did Varland make?
The Blue Jays’ offseason blueprint must address these 4 roster needs
After completely missing out on the playoffs one year after making it to Game 7 of the World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays have several areas to address before 2027: starting rotation depth, second base, outfield, and bullpen depth. The Blue Jays front office has said this offseason will be business as usual, and that they will have to be nimble and ready for whatever impact the CBA will have. The Blue Jays are fortunate their owner, Rogers Communications, is willing to spend money.
Blue Jays may have to make some tough calls in arbitration on these 8 players
Every year during the offseason, MLB teams have a group of players that reach the stages of their careers where they become arbitration eligible. Teams have to decide whether or not to tender them a contract by a deadline. If they can't come to terms, they then head to an arbitration process. This year, the Blue Jays have eight players that are arbitration eligible: Ernie Clement, José Soriano, Josh Smith, Bowden Francis, Spencer Arrighetti, Louis Varland, Nathan Lukes, and Davis Schneider.
Brandon Lowe headlines 6 players who could reshape the Blue Jays’ roster
Given the reported pursuits of Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and Kyle Tucker in previous off seasons, fans of the Toronto Blue Jays are growing accustomed to the team fishing in the biggest ponds. Sure, they haven't landed any of those guys, but Rogers is willing to spend the money to bring in the best talent to win a World Series. Case in point the $500-million contract dished out to Vladimir Guerrero and the seven-year deal that netted them Dylan Cease.
Blue Jays cannot rely solely on internal rotation options in 2027
There were plenty of topics covered during the year-end media availability for Toronto Blue Jays' GM Ross Atkins and President and CEO Mark Shapiro. There was talk about the lack of power, the struggles of Guerrero, and any potential additions to the pitching. When asked about the pitching, Atkins says he believed the Blue Jays have enough options within the organization that can contribute in 2027. But do they?
South Korea's US$200 Billion U.S. Program: What Sponsors Must Know
Project selection does not itself establish an enforceable funding commitment. Participants should identify the approvals, executed instruments and outstanding conditions supporting each South Korean tranche before relying on it. The US$20 billion annual limit applies across the program. Each project should assess whether its proposed allocation and funding schedule meet its development and construction requirements.
Blue Jays must decide if George Springer and Max Scherzer still fit in 2027
After the Toronto Blue Jays were officially eliminated from playoff contention by the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week, the focus starts turning towards the offseason. This offseason is a big one for the Blue Jays if they want to get back into the World Series. There are many aspects the Blue Jays will need to address this winter.
Blue Jays 40-man roster crunch gives Ross Atkins plenty of offseason work to do
Over the course of the offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays are expected to make several additions and subtractions to their 40-man roster. Additions to the 40-man can be made in various ways: activating players from the 60-day injured list, adding players through free agency or trade, protecting players from the Rule 5 draft, or selecting a player in the Rule 5 draft.
After Spencer Miles' breakout, Blue Jays should be all over these potential Rule 5 draft targets
Last winter, the Toronto Blue Jays selected Spencer Miles in the Rule 5 draft from the San Francisco Giants. To say the Blue Jays aced the pick would be an understatement as Miles has become a pivotal piece of the bullpen this season. Baseball America lists several names currently in the Arizona Fall League (subscription required) who will need to be added to their 40-man rosters, and if they are not added, they become eligible for the Rule 5 draft.
Blue Jays pitching prospect, Nolan Perry, validates breakout label after huge 2026 season
A "breakout" can be classified in different ways. It can be a player who struggled in the past that is having a bounce back or finally elevating their game. It also applies to someone who had little to no expectation coming into the season that has become a significant contributor. MLB.com recently selected one player from each organization as their breakout pick for the season. Some notable names that were selected are: Caden Hunter, Alberta native Eric Hartman, Josiah Hartshorn, and Murf Gray.
4 former Blue Jays' prospects who are putting themselves on the map for 2027
As they say with prospect development, development is not always linear. Some prospects are able to figure things out immediately while others may need more time. For every Bo Bichette, there's an Anthony Alford. Things may not have worked out with the Blue Jays, but it is nice to see these former top prospects having a chance to thrive elsewhere.

After defeating the Eugene Emeralds for the Northwest League Championship, four Canadians were named to the Northwest League All-Star team.
JoJo Parker’s first pro season should have Blue Jays fans rethinking his MLB timeline
Drafted eighth overall in the 2025 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, JoJo Parker had an excellent first season in the Blue Jays system. Parker was named a participant to the 2026 Futures Game, and was recently named a Florida State League All-Star, along with fellow teammate, Dameury Pena.
Kazuma Okamoto’s first Blue Jays season has been defined by extreme highs and lows
After dominating the NPB for eight seasons, Kazuma Okamoto decided to challenge himself at the game's highest level in MLB. Okamoto was posted following the 2025 season and the Toronto Blue Jays were able to sign Okamoto to a four-year, $60 million contract. In his first season in the majors, Okamoto has experienced his fair share of ups and downs. When Okamoto is on, he can uplift the team, but when he is cold, it can be tough to watch.
3 Blue Jays extension candidates Toronto should consider before it gets costly
In recent seasons, teams have been looking to lock down their young talent to long-term extensions. There's equal risk to both sides, as teams are paying more in the present hoping the player will be worth what they're getting paid or better. For players, they secure themselves financial stability but potentially lose out on extra earnings. Recent examples of players signing early extensions include: Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, JJ Wetherholt, and Chase Burns.
Blue Jays’ success with Kazuma Okamoto could lead them back to Japan in free agency
As free agency approaches, teams are strategizing what improvements they can make to their rosters. Every year, there are players from Japan that are looking to transition over to the MLB. Notable names include Kazuma Okamoto, Munetaka Murakami, Tatsuya Imai, Roki Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and of course, Shohei Ohtani. This year, there are three names that are looking to come over: Teruaki Sato, Kaima Taira, and Hiromi Itoh.
Blue Jays should keep a close eye on these 3 potentially available pitchers in the offseason
The Toronto Blue Jays entered the 2026 season with a lot of optimism on the pitching front. The rotation had lots of depth as Kevin Gausman was leading the staff, Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce were entering their first season with the Blue Jays, Trey Yesavage was looking to build on his momentum from the previous season. Eric Lauer had a chip on his shoulder, while Shane Bieber and José Berríos were looking to prove they were healthy. Max Scherzer was also returning for one more run.
The Orioles have the hype, but the Blue Jays’ pitching prospects deserve more attention
The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, currently boast a rotation that has prospect evaluators excited about the Orioles' pitching in the future. In fact a recent MLB.com article pegged this group as possibly the best rotation in the minors. One through five, they possess arms that have bright futures in the Major Leagues. Their rotation currently features: 1.
3 hitters the Blue Jays should pursue to upgrade their offense this winter
As the 2026 regular season winds down, some teams are preparing for October baseball while others are preparing for offseason planning. The Toronto Blue Jays, who are in middle of a chase for the third Wild Card spot, they are planning for both scenarios. For a team that made it to Game 7 of the World Series and took the Dodgers to the very end, to miss the postseason the following year would be considered a major disappointment.
