De-identifying Clinical Notes Without Destroying Their Value
Most de-identification programs have been built for structured records, which make up only 10-20% of health data. Health insurance claims, lab test results, and prescription dispensing information are typically composed of known, bounded fields. They can be de-identified using statistical models of risk, sometimes even making key decisions solely using the data dictionary.
The Impact of Work From Home on Commercial Property Values and the Property Tax in U.S. Cities
Authors Howard Chernick David Copeland David Merriman READ AS PDF A small number of large core cities and their larger metro areas account for fully half of all economic output in the U.S. (see the picture below for 2013) For cities to continue to play this vital role, they must be both economically robust and fiscally healthy, with revenues sufficient to provide the essential services that businesses and residents rely on, and financed by competitive tax rates.
How The Online Gambling Industry Is Reacting To Remote Working
Editor’s note: In this article, the founder of BettingJobs.com provides analysis of the recruitment landscape in iGaming as well as the impact of shifting to a remote working structure during the current pandemic. First things first, we hope this finds you in good health. Naturally, the focus of much current business communication is managing the commercial impact of the current pandemic. However, it is most important that we first recognize the human aspect of the current situation.
How to use New Relic for Performance Engineering and Load Testing
Performance engineering and load testing are critical parts of any modern software organization’s toolset. In fact, it’s increasingly common to see companies field dedicated load testing teams and environments—and many companies that don’t have such processes in place are quickly evolving in that direction.
The Future Of Kentucky Sports Betting Legislation Is Underway
A group of state lawmakers is close to finalizing a Kentucky sports betting bill it plans to pre-file prior to the start of next year’s legislative session. The bill would include mobile and online wagering, as well as betting at brick-and-mortar facilities. “We are definitely having a conversation with all types of entities to make sure we have a full sports betting bill complete with mobile wagering,” State Sen. Morgan McGarvey told Legal Sports Report.
Rhode Island Sports Betting Will Launch Later Than Expected: Reports
It appears Rhode Island sports betting will get a later start than previously expected. According to reports from the Providence Journal and Associated Press, the state signed a five-year contract Friday with IGT and William Hill to run its sports betting operation. IGT, the lone bidder for the contract, will be the state’s official sports betting partner. Rhode Island’s lottery will oversee sports betting, which will take places at its two casinos.
Doing The Math On The US Sports Betting Opportunity
Following the repeal of PASPA, industry stakeholders have not been afraid to band around large numbers highlighting the scale of opportunity for US sports betting. The headline figure — an estimated $150 billion the mainly black-market US sportsbook sector currently generates in annual handle — is certainly one to grab attention. In reality, building an industry generating $4 to $6 billion per year in revenues within five years is an attainable, not to mention impressive, goal.
A FutureTalk with Dr. Tom Dietterich
At the latest New Relic FutureTalk, Dr. Tom Dietterich spoke about his research on anomaly detection, and he offered a number of opinions and results of interest for those of us in the Domain Specific Modeling Language (DSML) community. Dr. Dietterich noted the relative lack of investment into anomaly detection by the machine learning research community despite the critical role anomaly detectors play in systems.
Automated Cross-Browser Testing: What It Is and How to Do It
New Relic is a software as a service (SaaS) offering, so our users’ primary interaction with us occurs through their web browsers. Unfortunately, we can’t support every browser that’s available, and we also can’t manually test every version of the browsers we do support. But we do support applications on eight different browsers across three different platforms, so automated cross-browser testing is essential to our ability to ship products with browser-based points of interaction.

WinView Games is taking the next step with its in-game sports prediction contests — putting on contests for real money. What’s WinView? The company says it’s not sports betting, and it’s not daily fantasy sports. What it is is an engaging way to follow along with live sporting events with a monetary interest on the line. The platform has been around for a few years, fine-tuning its contests and the software behind them. The contests have only been free to play so far.

The Rational Funding Plan for SUNY and CUNY Should Be Extended
In 2011 New York State adopted a five-year funding plan for the state’s public university systems that had two main provisions: a rational and predictable tuition plan and a maintenance of effort commitment from the State. The SUNY 2020 and CUNY 2020 Program authorized the State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY) to raise tuition by up to $300 per year.

Learning from Past Mistakes: Examining Changes to the Excelsior Jobs Program
In 2008, CBC called for the elimination of the Empire Zones jobs program amid concerns it wasted public resources.[1] In 2010, New York State replaced Empire Zones with the streamlined Excelsior Jobs Program. Excelsior was designed to avoid the errors of Empire Zones but until recently it has been difficult to assess to what degree it achieves its objectives.

Energy Reduction and Performance Maximization through Improved Cooling
The International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors [1] predicts high performance processor power density to more than double by the year 2024, while during the same time allowable junction temperature will decrease from 90oC to 70oC, reducing the junction-to-ambient temperature difference to nearly half. This combined challenge to cooling will require the total thermal resistance to decrease by almost a factor of four.
Review of Low Profile Cold Plate Technology for High Density Servers
Water cooling of computers was introduced more than twenty years ago, but had disappeared from the mainstream by the mid 1990s. The conversion of chip technology from bipolar to CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) was the main reason. As chip powers continue to increase, water cooling appears likely to become mainstream again. In the current market, the major benefits of changing from air to water cooling is increased packaging density and lower power noise.
