Those that take my readers to new places, make my editors proud, and delight the PR folks under the confines of journalistic ethics.

Be open-minded, curious, accurate, honest and write as if each reader is saving up a lifetime to experience what the story is about.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Any that tell me the PR rep has read my stuff and there's relevance.
What's your favorite drink?
Coffee drinks jalapeno martinis.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Traveling, duh. :)
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That travel writing is always glamorous and anyone who likes to vacation can do it.
