Canning’s volunteer groups are at risk of folding unless council pays their insurance premiums, the council agenda forum was told on Tuesday night. Stephen Johnston, of Rossmoyne, spoke on behalf of the three community landcare organisations saying the city’s public liability and personal accident insurance policies only covered groups working on council-managed land.

The Sikh community unveiled the “We are here” mural last Saturday at the entrance road of Canning Vale Gurdwara, at the corner of 280 Shreeve and Nicholson roads, Canning Vale. Gosnells mayor Terresa Lynes and Sikh Association of WA founder and president Harbhajan S Bejawn, alongside local MPs, city councillors, community leaders, and members attended the event. The mural conceived a decade ago spans a significant portion of the entrance road, with the painting completed last Friday.

While Canning Council is dealing with the shothole borer causing its mature trees to be removed, it is also planning for more to be planted. Murray Radstock, of Shelley, asked Tuesday night’s agenda forum when the trees would start being planted at the Shelley playground, which is part of the Shelley Beach master plan. He was told the council was still in the development phase of understanding where most of the tree planting would go.
