Electrocardiogram-driven depth of anesthesia monitoring: leveraging autonomic signatures and graph neural networks for low-cost, accurate identification
Accurate monitoring of the depth of anesthesia (DoA) is a critical component of modern surgical medicine. About 300 million surgeries are done around the world every year, and most of them need some kind of anesthetic (Dobson, 2020). It is very important to keep the right amount of anesthetic: not enough anesthesia might cause consciousness during surgery, while too much anesthesia can make hemodynamic instability more likely and slow down recovery after surgery.

Beyond width and density: stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in cork-rings provide insights of physiological responses to water stress in Quercus suber L
Conclusions Our findings on the variability of stable isotopes δ13C and δ18O in cork rings from(cork) harvested trees growing under contrasting water availability conditions in Mediterranean environments revealed that δ13C might primarily reflect the regulation of trees’ stomatal conductance and photosynthetic activity under severe water stress, whereas 18O primarily indicates the water sources used by the tree for cork growth.
My grandmother died just before I started uni; here’s what I learnt about grief
No matter how isolated you might feel right now, you're never alone. Freshers is not something you usually associate with grief. Jager-bombs, flu, awkward nights out - but not grief. But, like many young people over the past few months, I’ve experienced the passing of someone very close to me. I experienced the pain without much closure. But what I’ve realised is that we are never as alone in our grief as we might think.
Why our 20s are the loneliest time of our lives
We have great friends, we have so much before us, we have so much "potential". So, why do we feel more isolated than ever? Ellie explores the loneliness epidemic that defines our quarterlife generation. When I was younger I used to associate loneliness with grief. I thought it was something only old people experienced when their partners or loved ones died in their sleep next to them.
