VERMILLION — Before the actors took to the outdoor stage Thursday night, June 18, in Prentis Park to present William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” Rebecca Bailey, artistic director of the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival (SDSF) and Dennis Nelsen, president of the organization’s board of directors, had an announcement to make. Bailey asked Greg Huckabee to join her and Nelsen by the stage before the premiere performance of the 2026 festival.

The Vermillion School Board approved the transfer of $300,000 from the district’s capital outlay fund to its general fund during its regular June 8 meeting held in Vermillion City Hall. “It was a part of our budget this last year for a $300,000 cash transfer from the capital outlay fund to the general fund,” Business Manager Kevin Kocer said. “There’s a couple different reasons for that.
