Dave Lindorff’s Biography

I'm an independent investigative journalist and author, and most recxently a filmmaker, and am founder of the collectively owned journalists' news site ThisCantBeHappening.net. I have been a professional journalist since 1972 when I began working as a reporter at the Middletown Press in Connecticut. I have a BA in Chinese from Wesleyan University ('72), a MS in Journalism from Columbia U's J-School ('75), and was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in business and economic journalism at Columbia ('78-79). I am a 2019 winner of an 'Izzy' award for 'Outstanding Independent Journalism,' and am author of four critically acclaimed books including ''Marketplace Medicine: Rise of the for-profit hospital chains,' (Bantam 1992), ''Killing Time: An investigation into the death penalty case of Mumia Abu-Jamal' (Common Courage, 2003) and 'The Case for Impeachment' with Barbara Olshansky (St. Martin's press, 2006). I produced the documentary film "A Compassionate Spy' directed by Steve James, released to critical acclaimg in festivals in lSeptember 2022 with a world premiere in Venice and US premiere at Telluride, and a public release globally and in the US on Aug. 4, 2023. My latest book, " Spy for No Country," about teenaged Los Alamos atomic spy Ted Hall, currently at the printer, will be published by Prometheus Press this fall.
