NAR Settlement - Hawaii Real Estate Market & Trends
Since the news broke about the NAR settlement, there has been a ton of talk and opinions seemingly everywhere. As of now, NAR, National Association of Realtors has a proposed settlement for $418M that requires the court’s approval, which is reported to be in July 2024. I won’t get into the merits or debate of the class action lawsuit that brought about this proposed settlement, but it certainly all happened very quickly.

Tips for Finding Your Perfect Real Estate Agent in Hawaii
The title is a bit of a loaded question with a few different ways to look at the answer. Generally speaking, the best agent to work with is an agent you know, trust, and feel will do the best job possible on your behalf. As a board of directors for the HiCentral MLS, I see the active list of subscribers to the MLS, multiple listing services. Currently, the membership fluctuates around 7200 and 7300 members in general. That means there are over 7,000 active licenses on the Hicentral MLS.
High Five Your Home
When was the last time you gave yourself a high five? In her book, “The High 5 Habit,” Mel Robbins’ states that the simple habit of high-fiving yourself in the mirror every morning to kickstart your day, gives your day a boost. It may sound corny to give yourself a high five in front of the mirror, but apparently there is science to back up the notion. It turns out that showering yourself with words of love and encouragement makes for an improved mood, day, and life.
How is Healthcare in Hawaii?
Thinking back to one of the more traumatic days my family had on Oahu during an emergency is never easy. This was well over a decade ago, and I had moved to the island to get things set up before my family moved to Hawaii and the kids finished school. My youngest wanted to go to the skate park in Kapolei while they were visiting. I dropped them off at the entrance and went to park the car. No sooner had I parked did I see my wife running towards me screaming.
Embracing Island Life: Overcoming Isolation in Hawaii
I remember the looks on my mainland friends’ faces when I first discussed moving to Hawaii. A few of them immediately asked about island or rock fever, an actual ailment that can mentally affect anyone isolated, especially on an island thousands of miles away from the mainland. Of course, like any ailment, if you are experiencing medical issues, you should always call a trained professional immediately. So, is this a natural thing for anyone who moves to Hawaii?
Hawaii-Bound: Shipping Strategies and Essentials for Moving to Hawaii
One of the comments or questions I often get from my clients is what do I ship and bring to Hawaii when I move. The cost of shipping to and from Hawaii remains high for all the obvious reasons. Even with shippers like Amazon now on the island, most companies have extra charges for Hawaii, and some companies flat-out will not ship to the islands. Most goods and services that must be delivered faster come via plane and air.

How to Plan Your Trip to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii
Banzai Sushi Bar: My favorite restaurant to get dinner on north shore. They play surf films and have traditional tatami floor-style seating. Good sushi, solid drinks. Hot tip: put your name on the waitlist from Yelp in order to get a spot. Kahuku Beer Garden: such a fun spot! Great beers on tap.
Going Red in February
February is known for being a month dedicated to love. But, do you know that February is not just about Valentine’s and sweethearts? There are other reasons to wear red this month, and here are a few: Our nation goes red in February to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and to help save lives. It’s a time when all people—especially women—are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. Why? Because losing even one person to cardiovascular disease is too many.
Discover Oceanfront Lots for Sale in Ewa Beach, Oahu
As a long-time real estate broker who lives in Ewa Beach, one of the questions I hear the most about the area is what is happening with the oceanfront lots in Hoakalei. If you are not familiar with the area, the developer is Haseko. The developer bought the 1,100-acre community in 1988 and sold the first homes a decade later. This is better known now as Ocean Pointe. Fast-forward a bit, and the developer went on to build the Hoakalei communities.
Ewa Beach Real Estate Growth: Oahu Market Insights
There are few markets in the US where home values have consistently risen and, in some cases, doubled in value over time. Hawaii, specifically areas located on the Leeward Coast of Oahu, has achieved that goal. After many visits to the islands, my family and I decided it was time to make a move to Oahu. At that time, we lived in Colorado and had some entrepreneurial opportunities focused on Ewa Beach. The first trip out to Ewa was back in 2010.
Choosing the Right Brokerage and Real Estate Agent in Hawaii
Like most industries, Hawaii has license regulations for realtors. Just because someone has a license does not necessarily qualify them to help a buyer or seller in Hawaii buy or sell their most important asset, their home. Hawaii is an interesting market since we have Brokers In Charge (BICs). A BIC reviews, approves, and signs documents that are put in front of the buyer or seller client. Some states have the agents sign and review the contracts themselves, but not in Hawaii, as a BIC does that.

Maui Strong With Aloha
It is inconceivable to comprehend the damage and destruction that Lahaina, Maui and the people of Hawaii are experiencing. The Lahaina fire is certainly looking to be one of the worst natural disasters in US history and certainly in the history of the Hawaiian Islands. The images and devastation are just starting to unfold with weeks, months and possibly years ahead to rebuild this amazing community.

You Get What You Pay for in Real Estate and in Life
The old saying you get what you pay for in life is generally spot on. This is especially true when picking a real estate firm to represent you as a buyer or a seller. The term disrupter often comes up in real estate, but this can have variable meanings. Nowadays, we are seeing a new emergence of discount firms popping up in Hawaii. These firms offer the agents a low-cost entry and, sometimes, a promise of downline income making. Some have caps on what you pay.

Which Oahu Real Estate Brokerage Should You Work For?
After just a few years in the real estate industry, the phone starts to ring with calls for recruitment. The longer you stay and the more deals you close in the business the more calls you receive. It is interesting to me to see the other brokerage models that seem to come and go. The owner of Hawaii Life, Matt Beall, will always encourage us to take the call or meeting. He does not make this recommendation thinking someone will jump ship, but more so we can see what they are offering.

For our new listing at 280 Poipu Dr in Honolulu, we went full bore and really sent it.
