Jam at the Dam ‘26: After more than 30 years, LoveMonkeys return

For Bellevue’s Jam at the Dam in 2026, things have come full circle, as the headline band that will perform this year played in Bellevue for the first time more than 30 years ago – and its bass player at the time was none other than Bellevue’s own Jay Theisen. That band is the LoveMonkeys, and the popular group will perform at Bellevue’s Jam at the Dam on Saturday, June 13 at the municipal parking lot to the south of Lock & Dam 12.

Cans for Paws donation trailer aids Jackson County Humane Society

More than a quarter of a million empty cans (a total of 321,021 to be exact), dropped off by Bellevue area residents, have resulted in more than $16,000 to help animals in need, with most of that being donated to the Jackson County Humane Society during the past two years. And the cans and the donations keep on coming. The large amount of funding was made possible by Corey and Brittini Peters of Bellevue, who created the Cans for Paws organization on May 12, 2024.

Pillar of St. Donatus community passes away

A pillar of the St. Donatus community passed away last week. Lawrence Kalmes, who most people knew as Windy, owned and operated Kalmes Restaurant in St. Donatus for 70 years. He died Wednesday, May 13, at home at the age of 93. A funeral Mass for Kalmes was held this past Monday, May 18, at St. Donatus Catholic Church. Burial with military honors was conducted by Bellevue American Legion Post #273 in the St. Donatus Catholic Cemetery.
