Who in the World Is David Nwaba?
S o it’s 2011 and I’m sitting in the bed of a pickup truck rolling down a gravel road somewhere in rural Hawaii. Our team trainer is driving — it’s his truck — and me and two other teammates are in the back. We’re headed to our practice facility, aka, a tiny high school gym outside of Honolulu. Right then, flying down that road, the truck kicking up dirt, I was thinking to myself, Man, this probably isn’t the road to the NBA.

I’m Back (Again)
Hold up, maybe you’re thinking, Huh? Where’d he go? In 2016 I made a brief comeback with the Thunder. Not long after, I hung up my sneakers. It was a great run — 18 years in the NBA. I’m really proud of what I accomplished, and of the relationships I’d made during my playing career. But part of me knew I wasn’t done. Someone asked me a while back, “What’s the worst part about being retired?” I didn’t have an answer at the time. Now I do.
No Spoilers | By Harry Giles
Since I was in high school, making the NBA felt really close and really far away. It basically depended on when you asked me. I’ve had some injuries, obviously. I’ve had to learn to be patient. Even right now, I’m here in Sacramento, on an NBA roster, and I still have to be patient. Overall, though, I’ve got no regrets. The injuries — those were things I couldn’t control. But otherwise there’s not a lot I would go back and do over. Well, maybe one. There was one tweet.
So … About My Hair
So I have dreads now. And you probably have some questions and comments. I definitely want to hear them. But first, really quick, I hope I can take you back through my journey to get them. I never thought I’d ever think so much about hair. Honestly, at first I was surprised anyone would care what I did with my hair. When I started growing it out a few years ago in Charlotte, it was just something I was doing with six of my family members and friends.
Thank You, Melo | By Lance Thomas
I’ve got a particular definition of what makes a close friend. It’s not defined by how long you’ve known someone, but by the things you’ve been through with them. With that said, Melo, you are one of my best friends. Even just writing that down feels kind of crazy, because like a lot of young players in this league I admired your game from afar while I was coming up. We both have Brooklyn roots, so you were always on my radar. When I was a freshman in high school, I rocked braids just like yours.
Write Your Story, Babygirl
It seemed like nobody knew his real name. People just called him Picture Man. Paterson, New Jersey, where I grew up, is the hood the inner city the ghetto whatever you want to call it. And a lot of people have nicknames in the hood — funny nicknames, mean nicknames, really stupid nicknames, nicknames that make no sense at all, gang nicknames, everything. Picture Man got his name because he was always taking photos. You’d see him riding around on his bike.
