The UN Global Plan of Action on Road Safety aims to reduce global road fatalities by half by 2030, with a focus on vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists, who collectively account for half of all global road deaths. In Latin America, Africa, and Asia, motorized two-wheelers fleets are growing rapidly accompanied by a rise in road fatalities and injuries.

Cycling has become a popular, resilient and reliable travel option during the pandemic in cities around the globe. The implementation of emergent, or pop-up, bike lanes has received an overwhelming response since early 2020 and has also created a growing desire for safe and efficient bicycle infrastructure. Between March and July 2020, 394 cities, states and countries reported interventions that reallocated street space for people to cycle and walk more easily, directly and safely.

Desde o começo da pandemia de Covid-19, as bicicletas se tornaram uma alternativa ainda mais popular, resiliente e confiável para os deslocamentos cotidianos, e ciclovias temporárias (ou pop-up) são cada vez mais comuns em grandes cidades ao redor do mundo. Entre março e julho de 2020, 394 cidades, estados e países realocaram espaços das ruas para que as pessoas pudessem caminhar e pedalar com mais facilidade, eficiência e segurança.
