MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The city of Monroe is looking into one of its city council members. An independent law firm will investigate Council Member Gary Anderson for any ethics violations stemming from what Mayor Robert Burns calls “concerning allegations.” “We believe the council has responsibility to determine the facts,” Burns said during a city council meeting on Tuesday. Burns says CMPD investigators alerted Monroe police to an incident in Charlotte involving Anderson and a minor.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Kings Mountain couple has seller’s remorse after selling their land to a data center developer. Roxanne and Tony Wright sold most of their property three years ago to Honey Badger Development, a developer out of Reno, Nevada. Roxanne’s mother had previously done the same. The dozens of acres of land belonged to the family for more than 40 years. “I thought they were building houses,” Roxanne Wright said.

SHLEBY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A violent arrest in Shelby that has drawn national attention is now under investigation by state authorities. Former Shelby police officer Karson Hyder was fired on Saturday and is facing criminal charges after Ring doorbell video showed him striking Cherrie Moore several times during an arrest. According to court records, Moore suffered injuries that included a possible broken nose, black eyes, and a busted lip.
