Adopting Areg
I have been trying to adopt #Areg this weekend. It really is easy to setup and get initially working, even on #AlpineLinux. It is very rate that I ever have adopted a C++ framework. I am so picky, I usually just roll my own as needed. In fact, I only really have done so once before, and that was #Qt some 15 years ago. One result of that was the Wickr messenger. But what to do with Areg? Well, I had been planning out a successor to Coventry, which was a successor to SIPWitch.
The future of HPC is C++
I had been working some on HiTycho lately. I see strong use cases for HPX clustering in Geospatial work. For example, one could pass off map tiles in a large map for merging satellite imagery to independent tasks running on separate nodes and machines in a HPC cluster. Processing video feeds by splitting frames, VR simulations, and forms of AI processing may all be valid use case for this kind of scaling, too.

Blind coding
I want to talk about what it is like coding mostly blind. This is especially true for me as my eyesight continues to worsen and my chances for any corrective surgery continue to recede and anyway proved now impossibly costly. Of course what constitutes blind, visually impaired, etc, is a very broad range. Being unable to distinguish n from m may be a very minor issue, But I think no longer being able to safely cross a street because I cannot see approaching cars is closer to blind.
In Defense of C++
The Reputation of C++ C++ has often and frequently been criticized for its complexity, steep learning curve, and most of all for its ability to allow the developers using it to not only shoot themselves in the foot, but to blow off their whole leg in the process. But do these criticisms hold up under scrutiny? Well, in this blog post, I aim to tackle some of the most common criticisms of C++ and provide a balanced perspective on its strengths and weaknesses.
Calypso is a post-quantum secure cryptographic system for conveyance and storage of confidential business information. I thought this would be a good time to give a general impression of what that means and will look like. There are two user touch points. The first is calypso command line tooling which has some overall resemblance to things like pgp. This will allow for storage, signing, encrypting documents and email, and similar functionality using Calypso cryptography and secure storage.
I decided to add monads, a templated result wrapper, and a async template that wraps functions to channels in my golang services package.

C++ and ModernCLI
For certain kinds of large scale real-time and resource tight applications, C++ remains highly desirable to me. The key is in part being to break down large applications into some kind of smaller components, as well as to focus on both readability and debuggability of C++ product code. Clarity can be your friend and often matters when working with large scale systems.
The Tyranny of CI testing
Everyone seems to think ever more unit tests and Continues Integration are good things. This is often a fallacy. It is part of the often-mistaken Silicon Valley culture that gave us Scrum and believes you can somehow iterate yourself to quality by doing ever more incomplete work in ever shorter fixed time sprints, thereby adding incomplete work using ever smaller piles of garbage, rather than in actually solving problems. CI is the backbone of this culture.
America’s Irreplaceable Immigrants
Every day when breakfast is served, Americans come face to face with the impact of immigrant workers without whom breakfast items would be too expensive for everyday consumption and/or if short on time, the nearest drive-through fast-food establishment, cars lined up for blocks, would charge an arm and a leg for a simple egg, cheese, and sausage sandwich. Without immigrant workers, costs will skyrocket beyond the reach of many Americans.

The Illinois General Assembly has passed legislation that will add a new Section 18.12 to the Illinois Condominium Property Act that will require all condominiums with parking to adopt policies regarding accessible parking access for disabled owners. Migrating Workers Provide Wealth For The World| Countercurrents
Each year, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) releases its World Migration Report. Most of these reports are anodyne, pointing to a secular rise in migration during the period of neoliberalism. As states in the poorer parts of the world found themselves under assault from the Washington Consensus (cuts, privatization, and austerity), and as employment became more and more precarious, larger and larger numbers of people took to the road to find a way to sustain their families.
Why US Immigration Law Must be Federal
It would seem to me that Texas immigration law is not only unconstitutional, but fails to meet the requirements of and violates the Treaty of Guadalupe. The definition, status of Mexican nationals in the American southwest on what is now US soil, immigration, and movement of peoples between the US and Mexico, is actually defined in part by treaty law, which actually is above even federal law and becomes the “law of the land” per article 2, section 2.

Corporate Transparency Act: What Community Associations Must Know | JD Supra
The federal Corporate Transparency Act (“CTA”) requires that corporations submit a report to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (“FinCEN”) before January 1, 2025, with information on the persons who exercise substantial control over the corporation. As currently in place, condominium and community associations that are incorporated under the Illinois Not for Profit Corporation Act need to comply with the CTA’s reporting requirements.
How the New Chicago Air Conditioning Ordinance Affects Condominium Associations | JD Supra
A new City of Chicago Ordinance requires that condominium associations and other highrise residential buildings provide relief for residents during extreme heat events. On June 22, 2022, in response to the heat-related deaths of residents of a senior living facility, the Chicago City Council approved multiple changes to the Chicago Municipal Code that deal with heating and cooling requirements in residential buildings.
Associations Need to be Prepared for Mortgage Lenders’ Inquiries About Structural Issues, Significant Deferred Maintenance and Unsafe Conditions Following New Fannie Mae Requirements | Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP - JDSupra
For many years, associations and their managers have responded to questionnaires from mortgage lenders that seek information about the condominium association to help the lender determine whether a loan to a unit owner or buyer will meet Fannie Mae’s requirements for federally guaranteed loans.
Has Open Source Licensing Reached Its End of Life?
Recently, I finished working on a software project that I’m especially proud of. It took months of effort to complete, and the final result was something that perfectly fit my needs. It was a labor of love. It’s not important to reveal the purpose of the software here, or the technical details of its inner workings. Simply allow me to say that it’s something that I will use right away, and that other programmers may find useful as well.
