Q: “This has been a difficult winter for my child, who has ADHD and anxiety. They’re moodier than ever, and it’s taking a toll on their schoolwork and on the rest of the family. How can we help them find their rhythm again?” As winter wears on, many parents tell me their kids have hit a wall. The shorter days, emotional fatigue, and nonstop grind of January and February drain their motivation and joy.

Within families, each generation wants the next to be better off. It is no wonder, then, that many grandparents want to help their grandchildren by assisting with college education costs. Particularly now, when parents may have stretched budgets, this financial help can be very welcome. Grandparents have many options when making gifts for college. Hope is a powerful, transformative force in human psychology, often serving as a guiding light in challenging times. For people of color with ADHD, navigating the complexities of the condition, alongside systemic barriers, can feel like an uphill battle. Cycles of intense motivation followed by periods of frustration are common. Couple that with racism, lack of representation, and the socio-economic constraints that many minorities face, and the path to hope can seem blocked.
