It seems that I've always known what I wanted to do for a living, until the media landscape made it so I didn't.

But I have persevered. Some of the careers I've had along the way include columnist, editor, page designer, makeup editor, recapper, etc. In newspapers, if you name it, I've done it.

I like to think that this adaptability has kept me viable for my more than 20 years in journalism.

That, and I like telling true stories. Hope that helps.

Sally Kirkland, a prolific Golden Globe-winning star of stage and screen who was also nominated for an Academy Award, has died. The actor died early Tuesday morning in Palm Springs, her manager confirmed to Variety, after being placed in hospice last week with a diagnosis of dementia. She was 84. "Thank you for all your love and support. Sally is grateful for your kindness and love. Sally is on hospice now and is resting comfortably.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a hybrid on a sports desk, writing, editing and assigning.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, and I miss it. I liked the finality of striking the keys. When you write using a typewriter, you have to really mean it. And I did.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Trish Tilby ... or Brenda Starr. I can never decide. Lois Lane is a bully.
