Gut microbiota composition and dysbiosis signatures associated with complex gastrointestinal and urological conditions in neonates: a case series study
Abstract Introduction: During the first year of life, the gut microbiota (GM) is influenced by several factors, including delivery mode, feeding practices (breast milk vs. formula milk), antibiotic therapy, and preterm birth. Surgical interventions and complex congenital conditions may further alter microbial colonization, potentially contributing to complications and systemic inflammation.
Lung disease in crisponi/cold-induced sweating syndrome type 1: expanding the clinical phenotype spectrum
CS/CISS1 is an ultra-rare condition which frequently results in respiratory issues [1, 2, 6, 7, 12]: this syndrome is commonly linked to high mortality rates during the initial months of life, primarily due to severe respiratory complications, such as aspiration pneumonia and higher risk of sudden death associated with hyperthermic crises. Our analysis highlights the critical role of a multidisciplinary strategy in addressing respiratory challenges linked to CS/CISS1.
12 Northern California Italian Delis Worth Going Out Of Your Way For
Some Sandwiches are close enough to grab on a lunch break. Others somehow convince people to cross town and build part of the day around them. Northern California is home to Italian delis known for generous sandwiches, imported specialties, and counters packed with foods worth making an extra trip for. These spots earn attention for more than convenience.

Respiratory effects of off label anakinra in critically ill neonates: a 15-patient observational cohort study
Abstract Background: Interleukin-1 (IL-1)–mediated inflammation can contribute to lung injury, impaired alveolar development, and pulmonary vascular dysfunction in critically ill neonates. Anakinra, a recombinant IL-1 receptor antagonist, has emerged as a potential adjunct therapy in severe neonatal hyperinflammatory and respiratory conditions, but evidence in this population remains limited.
Physical Health and the Complex Role of PTSD Symptoms in Obesity: Evidence from an Italian Cohort of Maltreated Children and Adolescents
ORIGINAL RESEARCH article Volume 14 - 2026 | doi: 10.3389/fpubh.2026.1749018 Reviewed by ORIGINAL RESEARCH article Article metrics View details Abstract Background: Childhood maltreatment represents a significant risk factor for both mental and physical health problems, yet the interplay between PTSD symptoms and obesity in pediatric populations remains underexplored. This study examined the distribution of selected physical health problems in a large cohort of maltreated children.

Bile duct injury after cholecystectomy: timing of surgical repair should be based on clinical presentation. The experience of a tertiary referral center with Hepp-Couinaud hepatico-jejunostomy (pdf) | Paperity
Updates in Surgery, Aug 2023 Impact of timing of repair on outcomes of patients repaired with Hepp-Couinaud hepatico-jejunostomy (HC-HJ) after bile duct injury (BDI) during cholecystectomy remains debated. This is an observational retrospective study at a tertiary referral hepato-biliary center. HC-HJ was always performed in patients without sepsis or bile leak and with dilated bile ducts.
Voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy based physical unclonable function
We design a spintronic physical unclonable function (PUF) based on sub-100 nm voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy hybrid magnetic tunnel junctions (VCMA-MTJs). This complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor VCMA-MTJ (CMOS/VCMA-MTJ) PUF architecture was evaluated by combining micromagnetic simulations, Verilog-A modeling, and circuit-level simulations.

Frontiers | Structural characterization of a novel cyclic 2,3-diphosphoglycerate synthetase involved in extremolyte production in the archaeon Methanothermus fervidus
Introduction Osmolytes are small organic molecules that accumulate within cells as a response to conditions of stress. These molecules increase the thermodynamic stability of cellular proteins and nucleic acids without compromising their native functional activities (Yancey et al., 1982). Osmolytes are tolerated within cells at concentrations, from millimolar to 1–2 molar, depending on the extracellular osmolarity (Brown, 1976).
Beyond survival: the lasting effects of premature birth
1. Introduction Preterm birth is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a birth that occurs before 37 completed weeks of gestation (1). It is a significant public health concern, accounting for an estimated 10% of births worldwide (2), with approximately 1 in 10 babies born prematurely in 2019 (3). Preterm birth is the leading cause of infant mortality and morbidity, and it is associated with an increased risk of respiratory distress syndrome, cerebral palsy, and developmental delays.
Lateral nanoscale field emission comb for frequency mixing
Nanoscale field emission devices are promising candidates to design high-frequency electronics due to the lack of scattering in the vacuum channel that enables ballistic transport. In-plane devices are relatively easy to fabricate with current fabrication techniques and offer sub-fF capacitance. In this work, the characteristics of lateral gold multi-tip field emission arrays are studied. Vacuum gaps between the electrodes of 30 nm are fabricated, which allow < 10 V operation.

SARS-CoV-2 Infections in Italian Schools: Preliminary Findings After 1 Month of School Opening During the Second Wave of the Pandemic
Introduction During the first months of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic, starting from April 2020, aiming to reduce the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission, most governments declared school closure with ~91% of the world's students in more than 190 countries confined at home (1). This has caused immeasurable disruption to the lives, learning, and well-being of children around the world.
