China and Limits to the European Union's Geoeconomic Turn
Introduction A cascade of developments from the end of the 2010s into the early 2020s has challenged the European Union's (EU) benevolent view of economic interdependence. As a result, the focus of the EU's external economic relations has pivoted from a commitment to efficiency and competitiveness to concerns about resilience and security and to a greater willingness to leverage its economic weight. In response, the EU has adopted a raft of unilateral policies.
Paediatric Therapeutic Development Workshop on rhabdomyosarcoma
Abstract The third in a series of Paediatric Therapeutic Development Workshops focused on rhabdomyosarcoma. Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children, with 90% survival for those with the lowest risk disease, but just 20–30% in children with metastatic disease. An urgent unmet need exists to develop targeted therapeutics for high-risk disease and to reduce the toxicity of treatment.

Genome-Wide Methylation Sequencing to Identify DNA Methylation Markers for Early-stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Liver and Blood - Journal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research
Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is associated with a poor 5-year survival mainly due to detection at late stages. Better non-invasive surveillance methods are needed to improve early detection and maximize survival. We performed a strict assessment of DNA methylation markers (DMMs) for HCC detection. A total of 385 samples from liver tissues and blood were analyzed.

Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) response after induction FOLFIRINOX for locally advanced pancreatic cancer identifies patients who may benefit from surgical exploration: multicentre, observational cohort study
Locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) accounts for about one in three patients with pancreatic cancer1. LAPC is defined by anatomical staging, assessing the contact of the tumour with adjacent blood vessels2. A higher degree of tumour contact with adjacent vessels increases the probability of a positive resection margin. Moreover, vascular reconstructions are typically required with associated morbidity and mortality.

Estimation of intraoperative blood loss in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery: a Delphi consensus process of the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (E-AHPBA) | British Journal of Surgery | Oxford Academic
Intraoperative blood loss is considered a key quality indicator and outcome metric in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery1–3. The literature also suggests that blood loss could be correlated with morbidity and mortality, either directly or as a surrogate marker4–8. Blood loss is a common primary endpoint when introducing new or minimally invasive surgical techniques in HPB surgery9, and potentially one of the few actionable risk factors for morbidity.

Diagnostic accuracy of cross-sectional and endoscopic imaging in ampullary tumours: systematic review
Benign and malignant tumours of the ampulla of Vater (hereafter referred to as ampullary tumours) are relatively rare. For example, in the Netherlands, there were 177 patients with ampullary tumours in 2021 (0.68 per 100 000 in 2010–2016)1,2. Benign tumours have a 26– 65% lifetime risk of becoming malignant3,4.
Polar Stars: Toward an Epistemological Understanding of Security Constellations and the Arctic Case
The Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 had dire consequences for interstate cooperation in the Arctic region. Besides causing Finland and Sweden to rupture their historical neutrality and apply for memberships at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the invasion made the Arctic Council, one of the main intergovernmental forums for Arctic affairs, to first be put on hold and then resume activities in a limited capacity and without Russia.
Frontiers | Associations between psychotropic drugs and rsEEG connectivity and network characteristics: a cross-sectional study in hospital-admitted psychiatric patients
1. Introduction Precision psychiatry aims to shift current “one-size-fits-all” approaches based on categorical classifications, to a more targeted and individualistic approach (Fernandes et al., 2017). The key goal of this field is to develop tools that integrate an individual’s clinical and biological characteristics in order to more objectively inform clinical issues such as diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.

Comorbidity in incident osteoarthritis cases and matched controls using electronic health record data - Arthritis Research & Therapy
Main findings This study showed that the odds of having prevalent comorbidity differed between adults with newly diagnosed OA and their matched controls. Incident OA was positively associated with the majority (~ 72%) of the comorbidities, meaning that the probability of having these comorbidities was greater in individuals with incident OA than in individuals without OA at the index date, regardless of age, sex, and general practice.
Modified Oxford technique of colpopexy for the treatment of uterine and vaginal vault prolapse: a retrospective pilot cohort study
1. Introduction Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) is the gradual descend of the pelvic structures from its normal anatomical positions to bulge into the vaginal cavity (1–3). This mainly occurs due to a progressive weakening in the pelvic ligaments with a subsequent loss of the apical support (4). The last is thought to predominantly cause anterior and middle compartment prolapse, but also could contribute to a lesser extent to the pathophysiology of the posterior prolapse (5).
Frontiers | Personalized remotely guided preventive exercise therapy for a healthy heart (PRIORITY): protocol for an assessor-blinded, multicenter randomized controlled trial
Background Heart failure (HF) is a rapidly growing health problem with an estimated prevalence of 64.3 million people worldwide, which poses a major burden on public health and healthcare (1) Approximately half of the HF population has a preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF, left ventricular ejection fraction ≥50% (2). This syndrome is promoted by cardiovascular (CV) risk factors (stage A) such as obesity, exercise deficiency, hypertension and diabetes (2, 3).
The impact of an interaction-based classroom program on executive function development in low-SES preschoolers: first support for effectiveness
Introduction Almost 1 in 4 Europeans is at risk of poverty or social exclusion, and in Belgium 1 in 5 children are at risk, with children and adolescents under 24 being the most affected (Eurostat, 2018, p. 24; Kind en Gezin, 2019). Considering poverty’s adverse impact on children’s well-being and development, these numbers show that poverty remains a significant social challenge for the European Union.
B cell immune profiles in dysbiotic vermiform appendixes of pancreatic cancer patients
1 Introduction Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most fatal solid tumors and is notorious for its resistance to (immuno)therapy. Although PDAC exhibits an excessive inflammatory signature, effective immune responses directed at the cancer cells are compromised (1), for reasons incompletely understood. Recently, the role of the lymphoid tissues in shaping cancer immune landscapes has gained interest.

Securitisation imperatives and the exaggeration of Iranian involvement with the Houthi movement by international actors
7 THE US AND THE UK America's animosity towards the Islamic Republic began with the hostage crisis of 1979, when 52 Americans were held for 444 days by radicalised Iranian students. This crisis proved Tehran's credentials, as they were able to deeply affect politics in the US. Many believe that President Jimmy Carter's inability to resolve the calamity resulted in his loss to Ronald Reagan in the presidential election of 1981 (Kamarck, 2019).
