Developing an intervention for preventing anemia among adolescents in Indonesia: Directions from an integrated systematic review and qualitative study
Introduction – Objectives: Adolescent anemia remains a major public health concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Developing effective interventions requires understanding which intervention components are consistently used, which combinations are effective, and stakeholders' perspectives. This study aims to identify intervention targets for future interventions by integrating findings from a systematic review and a qualitative study.
Computer Science > Computational Engineering, Finance, and Science
Ship internal arrangement is a complex spatial design problem in which competing functions within a fixed volume affect spatial relationships, mass distribution, trim, and stability. Exploring these trade-offs requires many layouts in a common format, yet public general-arrangement drawings are scarce, inconsistent, and two-dimensional.
Computer Science > Human-Computer Interaction
As large language models (LLMs) are increasingly integrated into engineering workflows, students require hands-on experience to learn how to collaborate with them critically. This paper presents a scalable gamified workshop designed for engineering Master's students to practice human-AI collaboration in navigation planning.
God save the reviewer! Reviewing science in the age of AI
Once upon a time, scientific publishing was a relatively slow conversation among authors, editors, and reviewers. Today, it increasingly resembles a crowded railway station at rush hour: manuscripts arrive continuously, editors search desperately for available reviewers, and invitation emails multiply faster than anyone can decline them. Several forces have contributed to this transformation.

BMP5 signalling in beta cells and the impact on insulin secretion in the context of type 2 diabetes - Diabetologia
Abstract Identifying signalling pathways that are important in pancreatic beta cell stress and failure can give insight into possible treatment options to prevent the loss of functional beta cell mass in diabetes. The bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)/SMAD family member BMP5 has been reported to be specifically expressed in human beta cells, but its function is unknown. Here we hypothesised that BMP5 plays a role in the maintenance of beta cell function.
Urbanization and genetic homogenization in the medieval Low Countries revealed through a ten-century paleogenomic study of the city of Sint-Truiden - Genome Biology
Our analyses of genetic variation in Sint-Truiden population over a time transect spanning more than a thousand years revealed a process of homogenization of two distinct genetic ancestries during the intensive urbanization phase in the Low Countries. In the Early and High Middle Ages, the population of Sint-Truiden was more heterogeneous, with approximately 10% of the individuals clustering outside the range of the Late/Post medieval and modern genomes from Flanders in the PCA (Fig. 2).
Health literacy and hypertension-related multimorbidity: unravelling the mediating role of self-management - insights from the lifelines cohort study - BMC Public Health
We studied the association between health literacy and the onset and progression of HRM and the extent to which this association was mediated by components of self-management skills such as motivation, self-efficacy beliefs and problem-solving. We found that after adjusting for age, sex, monthly income, educational level and smoking status, a change from LHL to AHL did not have a NDE on the onset of HRM; however, it significantly decreased the likelihood of the progression of HRM.

Prevalence and determinants of diabetes mellitus in 2,338 long-term Dutch childhood cancer survivors (DCCS-LATER2 Study)
Diabetes mellitus (DM), a possible adverse effect of childhood cancer treatment, is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease and early mortality in adult childhood cancer survivors (CCS). Here, we assess the prevalence and determinants of DM in our nationwide CCS cohort. In this cross-sectional study, the prevalence of DM was assessed in 2,338 CCS, using the Lifelines cohort (n=132,226 adults with no history of cancer) as a reference.
lPrediction of Vancomycin Area-under-the-curve using Trough Concentrations Only: Performance Evaluation of Pediatric Population Pharmacokinetic Models
In pediatric patients, vancomycin plays a pivotal role in combating infections, necessitating precise therapeutic drug monitoring to ensure efficacy and safety. The adoption of model-informed precision dosing (MIPD) has demonstrated potential in optimizing dosing strategies based on the area under the concentration-time curve (AUC ). However, predictive performance of population pharmacokinetic models using only trough concentrations to estimate AUC has not been evaluated.

Humoral immunity to SARS-CoV-2 in kidney transplant recipients and dialysis patients: IgA and IgG patterns unraveled after SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination | Virology Journal
Abstract Infection with SARS-CoV-2 in high-risk groups such as kidney transplant and dialysis patients is shown to be associated with a more serious course of the disease. Four years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, crucial knowledge on the immune responses in these patient groups is still lacking. Therefore, this study aimed at investigating the humoral immune response after a SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to vaccination as well as the evolution of immunoglobulins over time.

Non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndromes with previous coronary artery bypass grafting: a meta-analysis of invasive vs. conservative management
A routine invasive strategy is recommended in the management of higher risk patients with non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS).1 This is based on the results of multiple randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that have compared a routine invasive with a conservative or selective invasive strategy, including over 11 000 patients, pooled in several meta-analyses.2–6 Patients with previous coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery represent ∼10% of patients presenting with NSTE-ACS...

A first study on the usability and feasibility of four subtypes of suicidality in emergency mental health care - BMC Psychiatry
Development of subtypes of entrapment leading to suicidality was clinically motivated in order to get a better grip on a more rationalised diagnostic formulation of suicidality. Probably, many clinicians already distinguish subtypes of suicidality, but systematic knowledge of differentiation of suicidality is scarce (10). As far as we know, this is the first study investigating the usability of a differentiation model of suicidality.
Apolipoprotein L genes are novel mediators of inflammation in beta cells - Diabetologia
Abstract Inflammation induces beta cell dysfunction and demise but underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. The apolipoprotein L (APOL) family of genes has been associated with innate immunity and apoptosis in non-pancreatic cell types, but also with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Here, we hypothesised that APOL genes play a role in inflammation-induced beta cell damage.
