Novelis commissions electric pusher furnace

Novelis Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, has started operating its first electric pusher furnace at its Sierre plant in Switzerland. The pusher furnace is used to heat aluminum ingots prior to rolling. By transitioning from natural gas to electricity based on the local Swiss power mix, Novelis says it expects to cut emissions by approximately 4,500 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year and reduce overall energy consumption by 25 percent compared with the former gas-fired system.

Gordon Recyclers acquires Lowe Fur & Herb’s assets

Gordon Recyclers Inc. (GRI), headquartered in Statesville, North Carolina, through its subsidiary, Gordon Recyclers North Wilkesboro LLC, acquired the assets of Lowe Fur & Herb Inc. in March. For more than 55 years, the Lowe Fur & Herb facility has helped local customers responsibly recycle metals and other materials. It will continue to operate at 108 5th St. in North Wilkesboro under the GRI name.

Trump administration updates tariff policies

President Trump took action June 1 to further adjust the tariff regimes for U.S. imports of aluminum, steel and copper. Additionally, the U.S. Trade Representative has proposed new tariffs under Section 301 related to a forced labor investigation.
