In this fifth episode of our Voices series, where we chat with theatre makers about languages in theatre and theatre in “other” languages, we hear Megan Brewer’s thoughts on the importance of transmitting and evoking feelings and emotion, rather than linguistic understanding. Megan is involved with three concurrent shows at Edinburgh Fringe 2026. She refers here to productions she has seen in other languages and companies such as Gecko, who specialise in multilingual theatre.

Aderyn/Bird The Harebell Tellers Genre: Story Songs, Storytelling, Theatrical Storytelling Venue: The Scottish Storytelling Centre Festival: Edinburgh Fringe Aderyn / Bird offers a gentle hour of folkloric tales and songs, drawing on bird mythology from across Britain. Ffion Phillips and Ailsa Dixon weave storytelling, cello and guitar together with Welsh and Scots language, creating an intimate, meditative atmosphere.
