Camera on or off? Appearance-based rejection sensitivity in virtual classroom and work settings
ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic prompted a widespread shift to online learning and work, moving daily interactions with others into virtual spaces. In the current research, we examined how visibility of one’s appearance shapes individuals’ experiences in virtual settings. We investigated this question through the lens of Appearance-based Rejection Sensitivity (Appearance-RS) – a personality processing system characterized by anxious expectations of being rejected based on one’s appearance.

Omaha Invites Visitors for a Weekend Getaway
While watching television with the family, you sit patiently through the commercials waiting for the show to resume. But have you ever had a commercial capture your attention with stunning images of outdoor adventures, creative cuisines, and memorable attractions from a city far away from home? Suddenly you’re less interested in the show and ready to plan a getaway. We get it. We work to create those such moments by promoting Omaha’s tourism assets to target markets around the region.

Chronic Pain Treatment Preferences Change Following Participation in N-of-1 Trials, but not Always in the Expected Direction
Highlights • Treatment preferences are “sticky”: only a minority of patients change their minds about treatment based on N-of-1 trials. • Different schemes for defining treatment success lead to different conclusions about whether patients’ treatment choices are concordant with their own data. • Patients and clinicians need more help interpreting personalized results. Abstract Objective : To examine pain treatment preferences before and after participation in an N-of-1 trial.

How to Thrive as a Highly Sensitive Man
Source: Paul Sijtsma In my previous post, The Highly Sensitive Man, I described how society makes it difficult for men to express their feelings or even to admit to being sensitive. Men are supposed to be tough, aggressive and active. They are discouraged from showing emotions such as fear or sadness, as if nothing should ever bother them, because that would make them appear weak. This negative stigma makes life even more challenging for men who are highly sensitive.
Being a Highly Sensitive Person During the Coronavirus Crisis
HSPs feel everything more intensely than others. We cry when we watch the news, we have nightmares when we watch a scary film. And what other people may find unpleasant, we find distressing. And of course that is more true now than ever. As an introvert and a highly sensitive person, I thought being socially isolated and forced to stay home would be a relief.
Can’t Buy Me Love (or Friendship): Social Consequences of Financially Contingent Self-Worth
In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby believes that financial success will make him a worthwhile person and lead to love and approval from others. After amassing a fortune, Gatsby showcases his wealth by throwing lavish parties that attract thousands of people. However, none of the guests seem to know their host and when Gatsby meets an untimely death, his “friends” couldn’t be bothered to attend the funeral.

NHS admin: how does it affect patient experience?
Of course, I have experienced good NHS administration too. But I only need to talk to my friends and family, or read stories in the media, to know that the examples described above aren’t unusual. Issues such as difficulty booking a GP appointment and lost test results are captured frequently in reports produced by local Healthwatch organisations.

Are HSPs Aliens or Superheroes?
How highly sensitive people can feel superhuman but segregated. Posted Jun 30, 2019 Source: Depositphotos Imagine that you’ve discovered you’re a highly sensitive person. You’ve done some reading, learned about your trait and understood how your sensitivity can affect your life. It would seem like the hard part is over. But for many HSPs, the struggle has just begun. That’s because being a highly sensitive person can make you feel special but strange, unique but isolated, talented but different.

Top 10 Reasons Why INFJs Are Walking Paradoxes
INFJs often feel misunderstood. Perhaps it’s because they’re quiet and reserved and tend to share their deepest thoughts and feelings only with select people. Or maybe it’s because they are so rare, making up less than 1 percent of the population. More likely though, it’s because they are walking, talking contradictions. As introverts who want to help people, and feelers who love logic, they can seem confusing, even to themselves.

Why Sensitive People Need Music
Source: stock image When psychologist Jennifer O. Grimes went to a series of rock concerts, she conducted interviews with the musicians backstage, but what she found was surprising. Most of the musicians were highly sensitive people (HSPs). Despite their exuberant antics onstage, the bright lights and loud noise of the concert, these were largely introverted people who channeled their energy into a creative and highly expressive performance. And it’s not only musicians who are highly sensitive.
Why Stress Stops Creativity for INFJs - And How They Can Get It Flowing Again
INFJs are sensitive, creative people with a passion for helping others and expressing their ideas. They may seem quiet and reserved on the outside, but on the inside, these complex folks are a bubbling cauldron of insights, energy and enthusiasm. But there’s one thing that can stop an INFJ from expressing their creativity and that’s stress.
Why INFJs Are Both Thinkers And Feelers (And How To Find a Balance Between the Two)
INFJs are sensitive, compassionate people who care about other people’s feelings and want to make the world a better place. But they are also deep thinkers with a clear sense of logic and, often, a love of science. This combination of artistic vision and fact-based reasoning can make INFJs appear to have two distinct personalities, and can confuse even INFJs themselves, especially when it comes to making career choices. But if you’re an INFJ, you don’t have to choose one or the other.
Mind the gap: women and leadership in the NHS
HM: Hello, and welcome back to the third episode of The King's Fund podcast where we talk about the big issues and ideas in health and care. I'm Helen McKenna, I'm a senior policy advisor here at the Fund and I am your host for this episode. The theme today is women in leadership in the NHS.
How good is the NHS? -
As a defining part of life, politics and society in the UK, there has long been extensive interest in measuring the successes and failures of the NHS. The Commonwealth Fund, a US charity, made headlines when it declared the UK health service to be the world’s best health care system, in a ranking based on global polling of patients and staff.
The HSP Relationship Dilemma
According to research by Elaine Aron, relationships are generally less happy for HSPs. We are more aware of our surroundings, and the people in it, so we are more likely to become unsettled by our partner’s behaviour and worry more about the possible consequences. We also feel stress more and need more downtime, which can put a strain on the relationship.

How ESTJs can Develop Empathy - And Why It’s Essential for their Success
ESTJs are take-charge, confident people who live in the concrete world of facts and rules. As traditionalists, they like to make sure that everything is running like clockwork and that standards, laws and values are upheld. As a result, they often move into leadership roles where their strongly held beliefs can be put into action. These go-getters don’t usually have any difficulty expressing themselves, especially when they feel someone is out of line.
Are You Highly Sensitive and Bipolar?
Highly sensitive people absorb a lot of information from the world around us. Consequently, we can easily become anxious, stressed, depressed or overwhelmed. Our sensitive nature also means we feel other peoples’ emotions and stress levels acutely. As emotionally responsive people, we can’t help dealing with all this stimulation in ways that may appear unsociable or overreactive to others.

Why Do So Many INFJs Want to be Writers?
The INFJ personality is a complex type. We live in a world of hidden meanings and symbols and often struggle to fit in with a world that values action over contemplation. But while many INFJs feel misunderstood, we also share a love and passion for expressing ourselves creatively, most often through writing. So why do so many INFJs want to write? And how can we use the natural traits of our personality to enhance, rather than hinder, our writing ability?

Oscars Red Carpet Fan Experience
Oh, what a night! Oh, what a historic night. Leo finally got his Oscar and we were there. On Sunday, David and I had the unique experience of attending the Oscars Red Carpet Fan Experience. Having no idea what to expect, we jumped in with both feet. Arriving the night before, we were able to walk around Hollywood Boulevard, check out the red carpet area, and even go inside the Dolby Theatre lobby. After sight seeing for a bit, we hopped back into the car and went to see The Revenant.
The Benefits of a Mastermind Group
Welcome to part two in our series on Napoleon Hill’s 17 Principles of Success! We started off last week with a post titled Finding Your Purpose. In that post we talked about the fact that you cannot be truly successful without having a direction to steer. For example, I can’t go get into my car and expect to end where I want to be without first knowing exactly where that is. Setting your direction in life works much the same way.
How to be a Gracious Receiver
It’s kind of a weird weather day here in the desert. It’s rainy. It’s sunny. Then it’s rainy and sunny. Basically, Mother Nature can’t make up her mind. As a result of her bipolarity we have been blessed with an abundance of rainbows. Normally, I despise leaving the house. However, today is Sunday, and I enjoy the out-of-the-house things we do on this day. On the way home from church we see a particularly large and bright rainbow that looks like it is so close we could touch it.
