Fish vision is adapted to the light conditions of their natural habitats, which predominantly involves visible light (Lythgoe, 1988). Fish's photoreceptor cells can absorb wavelengths from approximately 350–635 nm (Carleton et al., 2020; Douglas, 2001). Infrared (IR) light, which has wavelengths longer than 700 nm, is beyond the sensitivity range of most fish and does not provide sufficient energy to trigger the necessary chemical changes in the photopigments of fish (Levine & MacNichol, 1982).
