Dubai to award Dh55bn in contracts by year-end for Al Maktoum Airport expansion

Dubai is set to award an additional Dh55 billion ($14.9 billion) in contracts by the end of this year for the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), the city's second hub, with construction continuing unhindered by the regional conflict. Dubai Airports has awarded Dh13 billion worth of contracts this year for construction of the new DWC terminal, with a further Dh55 billion to be awarded by the end of 2026, the operator's chief executive Paul Griffiths said on Wednesday.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) expects "stronger momentum" in the second half of the year as airlines restore their route networks and transit traffic recovers, after the Iran war dented travel demand at the hub in the second quarter. The airport handled 13 million passengers in the April to June period, down from 22.5 million travellers in the same time last year, as the US-Iran war sparked travel disruption across the Middle East.
