Deirdre Kelly’s Biography

Deirdre Kelly is an award-winning investigative reporter, dance critic, arts, fashion, lifestyle and news reporter and columnist known for her work at Canada’s The Globe and Mail newspaper. In 2017, she became Editor of The York University Magazine in Toronto. Under her stewardship, The York University Magazine has taken top prizes at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards in 2020, 2019 and 2018. A two-time recipient (2020 and 2014) of the Nathan Cohen Award for Excellence on Theatre Criticism for her dance writing, she is the author of the best-selling books Paris Times Eight and Ballerina: Sex, Scandal and Suffering Behind the Symbol of Perfection. As a freelance writer, she has written for Marie Claire in London, Elle in New York, Vogue Australia in Sydney, NUVO in Vancouver and Toronto Life, Chatelaine, Saturday Night, the Toronto Star, The Financial Post , Zoomer, Canadian Geographic and Fashion in Toronto. A contributor to the International Dictionary of Ballet among other books. She sits on the advisory boards of Fête Chinoise, a bilingual English and Mandarin luxury lifestyle magazine based in Toronto, and CANIFFF, the Canadian International Fashion Film Festival.
