Just 35, and less than a week after taking her newborn home, Emma discovered she had postnatal heart failure, a rare disorder affecting pregnant or postpartum women. Yet it was returning to her little boy that became her top priority while fighting for her life at a locked-down Mater Hospital at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. “All I was thinking about was my baby,” recalls Emma, now 37, from Clondalkin, Dublin. “I just wanted to get home to JJ — that’s all I cared about.
