The number of studies on the fabrication and characterization of SiGe quantum dots (QDs) has been rapidly increasing over the past decades, driven by a wide range of emerging applications, from quantum computing (1−3) to infrared photodevices, (4,5) quantum sensors, strain-engineered transistors, (6,7) and biosensing. (8,9) Despite this broad landscape, the field can be broadly grouped into two major application domains: quantum information processing and photonics.
