1 Introduction Many believe that the structural anatomy of the brain dictates its functional patterns. However, the flexibility of brain function and imperfect correspondence between structure and function indicate a complex relationship that has proven difficult to capture. In addition to the difficulty of quantifying structural connections in the brain, one must also differentiate between inhibitory versus excitatory, active versus inactive, and strong versus weak connections (Brofiga et al.
