Newly discovered photos capture 1961 filming of 'How The West Was Won' in Paducah, Smithland

The pictures were acquired by Lamon Furniture and Antiques as part of a lot of other photographs and vintage postcards at a Marshall County auction house earlier this year. Among the stacks was an envelope of photos developed at a now closed Paducah camera shop taken by Harold Lawrence, a western Kentucky native who was working as a firefighter during the making of the film in 1961.

Seeking nuclear-ready community designation, Paducah, McCracken County host educational meetings

The City of Paducah and McCracken County governments hosted a pair of community education meetings on nuclear energy this week. The two meetings – held at the Paducah-McCracken County Convention & Expo Center Thursday evening and Friday morning – aimed to provide area residents with a base-level knowledge of the science behind nuclear energy and the current state of the industry. Concerned citizens also had the chance to offer public comment. Thursday’s meeting drew a crowd of around 150.

Emergency management officials detail train derailment near Hickman-Carlisle county line

Emergency management officials in Hickman County have released details on a CN Railroad train that derailed near the Hickman-Carlisle county line late Sunday night. Per a social media post from Hickman County Emergency Management, two locomotives and 29 railcars crashed off of the railway in a heavily wooded area past the end of Peery Road. HCEM was notified of the derailment around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.
