My refugee family needed food stamps. I'm in Congress fighting to restore that aid.
Rep. Derek Tran Effective April 1, refugees and asylum seekers in California will no longer qualify for benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, sometimes called food stamps or SNAP. In other states, food assistance for refugees and asylees has already ended. The Army changed my life. Serving gave me the foundation to go to college, raise a family, and eventually be elected to represent Southern California in Congress. Every dollar in my Army paycheck made a difference. I grew up on food stamps, Medi-Cal, and Section 8 housing.
Derek Tran: Americans deserve to know the true toll of tariffs
Orange County, California, is consistently ranked as one of the most expensive places to live in America. After the shocks to our economy because of COVID-19, supply chain issues, and rapidly changing technology, the instability rocking Main Street is causing prices to climb even higher. Prices of basic necessities are jumping from one week to the next. That’s not feasible for working families.
Derek Tran: Why I voted for the DETERRENT Act
