A nonprofit dedicated to helping young people in New Orleans is getting new leadership as Melissa Sawyer steps down from her longtime position of CEO of the Youth Empowerment Project. YEP started in 2004 as the first juvenile reentry program for formerly incarcerated children across the state. It has expanded to include adult education courses, a free summer camp and after school program, as well as job training for underserved young people between the ages of 7 and 24.
