Design Evanston

On July 1, Design Evanston professional members participated in a Project Review of the indoor youth sports facility proposed for 2722 Green Bay Road by the developer Ishbia Family Foundation and presented by the Gensler architecture firm. Overall, the consensus of the reviewing group was that this was a good project with only a few areas of concern and some areas that might be improved upon. The project is perceived as a very appropriate and beneficial use for this area of Evanston.

Less than nine months after launching its recent book: Hidden in Plain Sight: Evanston’s Double Houses, a small team of Design Evanston members has begun work on the group’s next volume: A book about the colorful past and interesting present of Evanston’s iconic Varsity Theater. The project is the fourth publishing effort by our design organization. Previous books include Evanston: 150 Years 150 Places (2013) and Evanston’s Design Heritage: Architects, Designers & Planners (2020).

Friedman to review a proposed five-story apartment building at 1103-05 Emerson St. Below are Design Evanston’s project review standards (in bold) with comments on how the specific apartment building proposal measures up to those standards. 1.
