Coursera Lays Off ~150 Staff After Udemy Merger

News The fifth round of layoffs at Coursera and Udemy since 2022, and the first since the merger closed. Coursera disclosed a cost but no headcount, so we worked the number out from past rounds. Coursera announced job cuts on July 6, eight weeks after its merger with Udemy closed. The company didn’t say how many people were affected.

Coursera Bets $100 Million That Andrew Ng Can Do What Coursera Can’t

This afternoon, Coursera reports its first quarterly earnings since the Udemy deal closed. Yesterday, it announced a $100 million investment in LearnVector, a new AI learning company founded by Andrew Ng. LearnVector’s domain was registered exactly one month ago and somehow it’s worth $300M? It’s a single page website with five open roles in Mountain View, and a promise of a first product in early 2027. Its founder is the co-founder of Coursera and the chairman of its board.

Coursera and Udemy Shareholders Approve Merger With 99% of Votes

On April 9, shareholders of both Coursera and Udemy voted to approve the merger. The votes weren’t close. At Coursera, 99.4% of votes were in favor of issuing new shares to complete the acquisition. At Udemy, 99.9% voted to adopt the merger agreement. Out of more than 228 million shares that voted across both companies, fewer than 500,000 voted against.
