Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My journey into journalism began through the lens of a PR and Brand Strategist. My first major contribution involved analyzing the intersection of technology and education, specifically exploring how generative AI is challenging traditional academic integrity. It wasn't just about reporting; it was about using my background in communications to explain complex digital shifts to a broader audience.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, and it’s a great reminder of the 'Think before you type' rule. In the era of Generative AI, where we can produce thousands of words in seconds, the typewriter reminds us of the value of every single letter and the weight of a well-crafted sentence.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

It’s the ultimate modern disclaimer. Whenever a take is too perfect or too chaotic, this hashtag reminds us of the blurry line between human insight and algorithmic generation.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer pitches that are data-driven, personalized, and visually supported. A perfect pitch should be 'digestible': a clear subject line, a unique angle that hasn't been covered, and immediate access to experts or high-quality visuals. If you can save a journalist's time by providing a complete story ecosystem, you've already won.

Why did you become a journalist?

I transitioned into journalism to bridge the gap between complex brand strategies and public understanding. As a PR and Brand Strategist, I saw a growing need for expert-led narratives in tech and politics. For me, writing is a powerful tool to deconstruct how digital trends—from AI to social media—are reshaping our society and business landscapes.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

In an age where AI can generate content, your value lies in your unique voice and human-centric insights. My advice: don't just report facts—build a personal brand around your niche expertise. Whether it’s AI ethics or political strategy, being a specialist with a distinct perspective is what makes you irreplaceable to both editors and readers.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch is always the one that respects the 'Data-First' rule: concise, backed by unique insights, and perfectly timed with current market trends. I value pitches that don't just tell a story but provide a solution to a trending problem, much like the integration of AI in traditional sectors.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I’m a regular reader of The Economist and Wired UK. I appreciate how they dissect the long-term implications of technological shifts on global politics and society. For me, it’s not just about staying updated; it’s about understanding the strategic 'why' behind the headlines, which is essential for both a brand strategist and a journalist.
