Creating and sustaining bidirectional relationships In its early years, the AA-FAIM Project focused on preliminary engagement, community involvement, and outreach. The PI accompanied project staff to many of the outreach events. Having academic personnel—both staff and faculty—making interpersonal connections in a genuine and respectful manner proved to be an invaluable way to develop relationships with people and build trust with the community over time.
