Editor’s summary The voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.7 is critical for peripheral pain signaling, but the development of safe small-molecule inhibitors has been challenged by structural similarities between Nav1.7 and other Nav channels. Here, Samie et al. designed zinc finger repressors (ZFRs) to selectively bind and repress the expression of Nav1.7 encoded by the SCN9A gene.
