1 Introduction Predation is an important cause of mortality in natural populations, and the risk of predation affects decision-making in all behaviours (Lima and Dill 1990; Tinbergen, Impekoven, and Franck 1967). During a predatory encounter, effective anti-predator tactics are crucial to avoid death. In this context, conspicuous signalling by prey is common, including alarm signals, mobbing signals and distress signals, among others (Bradbury and Vehrencamp 2011).

Abstract It has been proposed that blue-green egg coloration is a condition-dependent female sexual trait that may modify paternal care in a post-mating sexual selection scenario. This pattern may arise because the pigment responsible for eggshell colouration (biliverdin) may be a costly and limited resource, whose availability is linked to female health state.

Scientists have looked at the relationship between global deforestation and the increase in virus risk. The logic is simple. Countries globally are fighting COVID-19. What reportedly started off as a novel virus in a wildlife wet market in Wuhan, China, has turned into a global pandemic with almost all countries reporting cases, and millions of people globally having been infected. As the virus spreads, so too is the need to better understand the virus’ root cause.
