While the news was positive on its face, it might also carry another message: Fort Wayne Metals and its workers are staying put after being bought last week by Axel Johnson Inc. (AJI).

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Fort Wayne Metals, which started making medical-grade precision wire in 1970 and has grown to a dozen U.S. locations and two in Europe, was acquired by Axel Johnson Inc. (AJI), a family-owned investment company “focused on building enterprise value over the long term.” The wire company, with products in everything from stents and surgical robots to aircraft and automobiles, will continue to operate independently and remain headquartered in Fort Wayne.

Encore: Fort Wayne’s Headley only student to return to NYO Jazz

Braxton Headley, 17, is still in high school, but this will be his second summer touring with NYO Jazz, an ensemble of the nation’s top 16 to 19 year-old players. Headley is the only second-year student. “Last year, obviously, the music was phenomenal,” Headley told WANE 15.
