Damon Kiesow is a Senior Product Manager at The Boston Globe where he helps develop new mobile apps and mobile websites for Boston.com.

In 2010-2011 he was the Digital Media Fellow at the Poynter Institute in St Petersburg, Fla., writing about the use of mobile technology in journalism at http://poynter.org/mobilemedia. He has presented at numerous conferences and webinars on the topics of mobile media, change leadership, multimedia newsroom management and photojournalism.

In system design, this is governed by Tesler’s Law (the “conservation of complexity”), coined by Larry Tesler at Xerox PARC in the 1980s. The axiom states that at the core of every product is an activity with a non-reducible, non-negotiable amount of effort attached to it. That work must be assigned in some share to either the system or the end-user.
